We know the traps
in your industry

Generic bookkeeping produces generic numbers. A contractor and a law firm both need accurate books, but they need completely different things from them — and an accountant who treats them the same is useful to neither.

Why it matters

Most bookkeeping problems
are industry problems

When a business owner tells us their books are technically accurate but still useless, the cause is almost always the same: everything was recorded correctly, but nothing was recorded in a way that answers the questions their particular business needs answered.

A roofing contractor whose books balance perfectly but don't split costs by job cannot tell you which jobs made money. The numbers are right and the information is worthless. Come bidding season, they price the next job off a gut feeling.

An Amazon seller whose bookkeeper records the settlement deposit as revenue is understating both sales and expenses by the amount of every fee Amazon deducted. Margins look fine right up until the moment they very much aren't.

A law firm that runs client trust funds through the operating account has a bar complaint waiting to happen, regardless of how tidy the ledger looks.

None of these are exotic. They're ordinary mistakes made by competent bookkeepers who have never worked in that industry and don't know which question to ask.

What industry knowledge changes

  • Your chart of accounts matches how you actually work
  • Costs are tracked at the level decisions are made
  • Revenue is recognised at the right moment
  • Compliance rules specific to your trade are followed
  • Reports answer questions you actually have
  • Nobody has to explain your business twice

All plans from $299/month, whatever your industry

Not on the list?

We probably still fit

Nineteen industries is where we've built genuine depth, but the underlying work transfers further than that. If your business bills by project, carries inventory, runs crews, holds client money, or earns commission, the mechanics are familiar to us even if the trade name isn't.

What we won't do is pretend. If you tell us on the call that you run a business with rules we don't know — certain nonprofits, certain regulated sectors, anything with unusual revenue recognition — we'll say so and point you somewhere better. Learning your compliance requirements at your expense isn't a service.

The free call is the fastest way to find out. Thirty minutes, we look at your books, and you'll get a straight answer either way.

Common questions

About industry-specific work

No. Pricing is based on transaction volume, not industry. A roofing contractor and a consultant with the same number of monthly transactions pay the same. The industry knowledge is what you're getting, not what you're paying extra for.

We're honest about the difference between deep experience and general competence. The industries listed above are ones where we know the specific traps — job costing, retainage, trust accounting, settlement reconciliation. If yours isn't one of them, we'll tell you on the call rather than learning on your books.

Common — a construction company with rental properties, or a gym that sells supplements. We set the chart of accounts up to report each side separately, so you can see whether the second line of business is actually contributing or just adding work.

Not the basics. You won't be explaining what retainage is or why a settlement deposit isn't revenue. You will spend time on the specifics of how you operate, because that's the part that's genuinely yours and worth getting right.

Yes, and it's a large share of the cleanup work we do. Usually it means rebuilding the chart of accounts and recategorising historical transactions so past periods become comparable. Cleanup starts at $200 per month you're behind, quoted before we start.
